CERTIFIED TIFWAY 419 BERMUDA: A warm season grass which is fine-textured, light to dark green in color, and is low growing. It has a deep and extensive root system via rhizomes and stolons. It is the most widely adapted turfgrass species in Georgia. Tifway 419 is the preferred grass for golf courses, sports fields, commercial and residential landscapes. It performs best in well-drained soil and warm, humid climate regions, but needs full sun to maintain turf-type quality. Tifway 419 has a dormancy period in the winter. It has a rapid growth and establishment period and recovers rapidly from damage.
CENTIPEDE: Centipede is a creeping turfgrass (above ground runners or stolons) that requires less mowing due to its slow growth habit. It has a natural light green color (green in summer, brown or dormant in winter) and is more suited to acidic soils than most turfgrasses. The popularity of centipede grass is related to its tolerance of low soil fertility which results in very little maintenance and less mowing. Centipede is grown extensively in the southern half of Georgia. Proper mowing height is between 1 – 2 inches with sharp blades.
ST. AUGUSTINE: St. Augustine is a common lawn grass in middle and southern Georgia. This grass has large flat stems and broad coarse leaves, goes semi-dormant in winter and is best suited for well drained soils. It has an attractive blue-green color and forms a deep, fairly dense turf. It spreads by long, above-ground runners and should be mowed at 2-3 inches and fertilized moderately. St. Augustine is the most shade-tolerant warm-season grass.
CERTIFIED PALISADES ZOYSIA: Palisades Zoysia is a medium to coarse textured turf noted for its shade tolerance and low water use requirements. It will tolerate mowing as close as ½” with a reel mower and as high as 2 – 2 1/2 inches for home lawns. Palisades is a high density turf noted specifically suitable for golf course fairways and roughs, sports fields and home lawns. Palisades close mowing would permit use on golf course fairways especially where water availability is concern.
TALL FESCUE: Tall Fescue is a perennial, dark green, bunch-type grass that grows rapidly during the spring and fall. Its popularity relates to its ease of establishment through seeding and its green color during spring and fall, when warm season turfgrasses are dormant and brown. Tall fescue is adapted to a wide range of soil conditions but grows best on fertile, well-drained soils. This grass stays green year-round under irrigated conditions and demonstrates good shade tolerance in the southern region. Recommended mowing height: 2- 3 inches.
